Early Spring

Groundhog Day was early February and the groundhog decided it would be an early spring! This seems impossible as we have not really even had winter yet… But, I like spring better so I am not bothered by this little furball’s prediction. Spring is a new life. Instead of dead winter, the Earth will be filled with flowers and blooms.

Another reason I love spring is being able to open the windows and let a breeze in. For so long during winter I feel cooped up in my house with no desire to do anything. I love letting the sunshine in and being able to feel like I am breathing fresh air again.

The downside? Opening my windows and letting the air in really exposes all of the dog hair and clutter that has been piling up in my house… I even realize I still have shipping boxes stacked up with Christmas presents that I have not even opened. So, I guess spring cleaning really is a thing.

The best idea is to put on some music and really just go to town. I thought maybe I could split it up over multiple days, but I have found that trying to complete little tasks each day is not effective. Some days I will come home and be distracted and not want to do that assigned task. So I put it off for the next day and then I have two tasks I do not want to do instead of one. Setting aside one whole day to get the whole thing done really does make it fly by. And seeing the results all at once is so much better than over a longer period of time.

My first task is to move all of the shipping boxes. I need to either find a place to store everything, make a plan to give it away, or throw it away. Next, I will sweep up all the dog hair that has accumulated under and around things I had not even noticed for the past few months. The windows and curtains will need a fresh dusting and wiping down.

It takes hard work, but it will be worth it. Clean places are proven to make people happier and more productive! It just takes some time to get there, unfortunately. And if anything, if you are lucky enough, you can always hire someone to do your cleaning for you!
